A bulb grower needed a ship. Adriaan found one, then kept the paperwork.
In 1974 the hard part of Dutch horticulture export was not the flower — it was the five signatures between the grower's shed and the vessel's rail. Adriaan Vegter chartered a 1,900-TEU ro-ro, then put a desk in the port so growers only had to trust one name. That trade — take the paperwork risk onto our own book — is still the entire business model.
Fifty-one years later, we operate across 168 countries, but our legal setup is unchanged: privately owned, family-held, with zero outside debt. We don't optimise for this quarter's EBITDA report — we price for the decade.
